The highest density of Sri Lankans in the New York/New Jersey region is in Staten Island. Its the place you want to vist if you want groceries and a cheap meal. All the Grocery Stores and Restaurants are on Victory Blvd, within a mile of each other. Getting to Staten Island can be made a quite a pleasant trip.
Public Transport
Take the 1 &9 or N &R subways downtown and get down at Whitehall, The Ferry Terminal is right outside. From there the ferry ride is free and half hour across. You can stand on the deck, watch the Statue of Liberty go by and see a great view of the Manhattan Skyline Now without the World Trade center, seem like any other city.
Driving:
Coming across the Verrazano or other bridges is the fastest. The Verrazano bridge has a $7 toll.
