‘Midst shattered mass of stone and rubble
And walls and bricks pulled down to crumble
‘Midst splintered glass and smouldering fire
And twisted frames of steel and iron
Proud and erect stands the form
Of a sorry looking Cross – a marvel born !
Drenched in unseen stains of blood and tissue
Which from the screaming ones did issue,
With thousand mangled bodies lying ‘neath
It stands – this Cross – uplifted arms outstretched,
Beckoning, reaching, calling to the aching breast -
"Behold I died yet still I live,
So shall you loved ones ever be!
‘Twas to grant them all Eternal Life
That I suffered and sacrificed my life.
The once given promise I give again –
‘Lo I am with you ever and for aye’
For he who is with me never shall he die,
‘Come unto me and I will give you rest
Life with me is better than the best.
I am with You, They are with ME,
So still united you’ll always be."
